IDEOS X5Huawei Technologies with the launch of IDEOS series of mobile phone in India has made a clear-cut point that they have an impact on the fast growing market which looks for the affordable Android mobile phone. The term affordable in India can reach any extent and the cheapest Android mobile phone available at present priced at just over $ 100. And the records are meant to be broken; you might never know you can get Android mobile for less than $ 100 too.

Addition to Huawei IDEOS series of mobile phones apart from Huawei U8800 X5 we have U8500 (IDEOS X2), Huawei U8500 (IDEOS X2) and Huawei U8300 Ideos Chat. Speaking of Huawei U8800 IDEOS X5, it’s completely a different model than the earlier IDEOS series model phones. This is the higher end model in the IDEOS series. So let’s find out what Huawei U8800 has in store for the consumers.

As I get a hand on the devices, it quickly reminded in my mind of it’s resembles to Google Nexus One as it has similar design. I was very much pleased to see the smooth and silky front side with rounded edges. Along with that when I hold the phone it’s like perfect grip to it as it has the matt casing.

It’s only available in black color but it gives the device a classy appearance. Just like other Samsung manufactured Android mobile phone it has four capacitive touch sensitive button namely to perform back, menu, home and search operation. Above those buttons we have the 3.8 inches fingerprint resistant touchscreen display capable of displaying 16 million colors. The screen is provided with multi touch input and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

The IDEOS X5 is powered with 800 MHz Scorpion processor with graphical acceleration provided by Adreno 205 GPU on the Qualcomm MSM 7230 chipset. The mobile comes with 4 GB of internal storage with 512 MB of RAM along with a microSD card slot to expand the memory by adding a 4 GB/ 8 GB / 16 GB or 32 GB memory card.

No doubt that it’s a 3G enable devices and its supports a top speed of 14.4 Mbps through HSDPA connectivity. The HSUPA connectivity provides a maximum speed of 2 Mbps. If that’s not enough then you can make use of Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n to accept the incoming Wi-Fi signals. Also you can create your own Wi-Fi network by using the Wi-Fi hotspot option available in the Settings options. Finally if you opt for 2G network then you can make use of GPRS with EDGE technology to connect with web. Also Bluetooth v 2.1 with A2DP and EDR provides wireless file transfer to digital devices.

It has the power button on the top right side edge, beside that we have the 3.5 mm headset connectivity pin and the microUSB port which can be used for PC connectivity and for charging too. The volume jack keys are located on the right side edge.

When it comes to operating system, we are a big fan of Google powered Android, the fact that Ideos X5 runs on the Android Froyo 2.2 is a plus point. This includes exclusive access to Android Market to install apps on your mobile phone and also Google powered devices often comes with free Google Services like Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk and Google Search. The handset support flash content which are played with Adobe Flash 10.1. The audio player would play MP3, WMA, eAAC, eAAC+ music formats, and video player supporting MP4, H.263 and H.264 video formats.

The major feature is the camera resolution that this mobile phone has. It’s outstanding at 5 mega pixel resolution with autofocus and LED flash providing a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The camera provides video recording at 720p HD videos at speed of 30 fps.

To power IDEOS X5 lithium polymer based 1500 mAh standard battery provides a standby time of 380 hours in 2G mode and 440 hours during 3G mode. The talk time offered is approximately 8 hours. The handset weights 130 grams. This mobile phone is priced at $ 349 or Rs 15,000.

The Huawei Ideos X5 has good number of features but it doesn’t even come closer to higher end competitors maybe because they demand more speed and features. It’s a mid-range model with beautiful appearance.
